Meta Connect 2025: Unveiling Smart Glasses, AI Innovations, and Metaverse Developments
Meta Connect is just around the corner, and I'm already excited about what's in store. If you follow tech like I do, you know this is Meta's big annual event for all things AR, VR, AI, and the metaverse. And guess what? It sounds like this year will be huge, especially when it comes to smart glasses and AI.
Mark Zuckerberg is kicking things off with a keynote. I'm particularly eager to see the new smart glasses. Codenamed "Hypernova," these glasses will be the first consumer-ready ones from Meta with a built-in display. We’ve heard rumors about these for a while now.
Now, don't expect a full-on augmented reality experience like Meta's Orion prototype. Instead, this display will likely show notifications and photo previews. Also, there will be a wristband that lets you control features with hand gestures.
The price? Expect to pay around $800. There’s even talk of a Prada-branded version, thanks to Meta's partnership with EssilorLuxottica. This suggests Meta is aiming for the higher end of the market. I suspect we might also see a new version of the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, but with better cameras, battery life, and some cool AI tricks.
Meta and AI
Of course, it wouldn't be a Meta event without a heavy dose of AI. Meta AI already has a billion monthly users. I anticipate hearing about new AI features for both the glasses and Meta's apps. There's buzz about non-English speaking chatbots and maybe even more about Zuckerberg's "superintelligence" vision. It's a bold plan, and I'm curious to see how it's shaping up.
I'm also watching closely to see if Zuckerberg addresses the Llama models. There have been reports of delays. It's a competitive field, and everyone's trying to push the boundaries.
The Metaverse Still Matters
Don't think Meta has forgotten about the metaverse. Andrew Bosworth has hinted at "metaverse software" updates related to Horizon Worlds. We might also learn more about the AI-powered NPCs coming to the metaverse. That's an interesting prospect.
While new Quest headsets aren’t expected, we may hear about those third-party VR headsets running Meta's VR software. Remember those partnerships with ASUS, Lenovo, and Xbox?
Finally, I am also hoping to see if Meta will update on their holographic Codec avatars. It will be interesting to see what they unveil!
