Drone vs. UFO: Missile Fails to Stop Mysterious Object

Technology

So, I saw this pretty wild video that's making the rounds. Apparently, during a recent Congressional hearing, they showed footage of a Reaper drone launching a Hellfire missile at some sort of, let's say, unidentified flying object. The crazy part? The missile, according to reports, just "bounced off," and the thing kept moving. This understandably got everyone's attention, including members of Congress.

Representative Eric Burlison shared the video, mentioning it was from October 2024, and showed an MQ-9 drone tracking an orb near Yemen. He also pointed out that the footage came from a whistleblower, and is still being independently reviewed.

While some might jump to the conclusion that this is some sort of extraterrestrial encounter, I think it's probably something a bit more down-to-earth, possibly related to the military conflicts in Yemen. I mean, calling everything a UFO just because it's flying and unidentified feels like a bit of a stretch, right?

What I find truly fascinating is that the U.S. is now using drones to engage with unidentified objects. I remember reading about a test back in 2017 where a Reaper successfully shot down a target drone using an AIM-9X Sidewinder missile. The idea of arming drones for air-to-air combat isn't exactly new.

Ultimately, while a battle between a drone and aliens would make for a much more sensational story, the evolution of these unmanned aerial defense systems is interesting. Our flying robots are improving all the time. Maybe this is a good thing, until they decide to target you.
